Brands frequently ask about the difference between gold vermeil, gold-filled and standard gold-plated jewellery. Gold vermeil uses 925 sterling silver as its base and requires a minimum 2.5-micron gold coating — it is the most prestigious non-solid-gold option. Gold-filled has a mechanically bonded gold layer and a brass core, making it more durable but less elegant. Standard gold plating (often brass-based) has a much thinner gold layer and lower longevity.
